The anesthesiologists I met in medical school were the happiest doctors in the hospital. While this sparked my initial interest in the specialty, I quickly realized that I loved the physiology, pharmacology, procedures and the team environment of the [operating room], and knew anesthesiology was the right fit.

I always try to build a rapport with my patients and do my best to make them comfortable by talking and listening to them, so that they can communicate their problems in a simple and straight fashion. Many times, I use a little humor to help them communicate with me.

I always wanted to be a veterinarian and began working with animals at age 18 at a vet office… and inherently [treated] some minimal wounds during that time. I was never grossed out or bothered by any of it. Honestly, I’m not sure where the tolerance came from. I’m not a fan of gore!
