Apparently there's nothing that doesn't pair well with yoga. This past year, Phoenix has welcomed yoga with goats, yoga with cats, yoga on paddleboards, and now... yoga with booze. This "fitness" trend (and we say "fitness" with a massive grain of salt because surely, replenishing your body with booze after a sweat sesh is not really healthy, per se) is good news for all those who've ever thought, "You know what sounds good right now? A beer," while in flying locus. Still, a leisurely morning or afternoon spent in feel-good asanas followed by a refreshing cocktail sounds downright lovely as the temps around the Valley finally begin cooling off. Below, a variety of places offering one-hour classes for a low fee and the opportunity to sip delicious craft cocktails, beers or mimosas afterwards. Grab your mats.

To raise awareness and funds during September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Chompie’s is partnering with Singleton Moms, an Arizona-based nonprofit organization that supports single-parent families affected by cancer.

During September, Chompie’s will donate $1 to Singleton Moms from each entrée ordered from the deli’s special three-item menu, which includes Josh’s Whole Grain French Toast, Classic Grandpa Ruby’s Reuben and the Fitness Omelet.

I step onto the platform and grab the bar with a grip so strong my palms start to ache. But pulling up the weight, I look in the gym’s mirror and see no pain on my face, only motivation and determination.

When you hear the term powerlifting, you might think of a CrossFit gym with bulky bros and an absurd pull-up requirement. But in powerlifting, the movements are more controlled using heavier weight, whereas cross training is about practicing many different exercises. The main goal is to lift as much weight as possible. And maybe a little more.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. There are few things I enjoy more in this world than copious amounts of comfort food and day drinking. And (I feel you reading this, Mom) quality family time, of course.

I like that it's the only holiday I can recall that feels distinctly American. Tangent: 10 years ago, I was studying abroad in England over the holiday and my host university attempted to cook us homesick Americans Thanksgiving dinner. It was a lovely gesture but no amount of dried out turkey breast and typically British, flavorless sweet potato pie could replace the epic meals we'd grown up with.

I suppose part of that is because Thanksgiving often falls close after Election Day, forcing far flung relatives of differing political persuasions into perilously cramped kitchens, paving the way for an innocent gravy burning to morph into a familial battle royale over who voted for who. Ahhh, the sweet smell of Democracy.

But most of all, I love that it's the everyman's holiday – about nothing more than friends and family coming together and sharing a really good meal. No required gift giving, no obnoxious music and nary a jingle bell in sight.
