It’s hard to pick up a dinner menu these days that doesn’t feature scallops in some form – from sautéed in olive oil to drenched in browned butter and coated with panko crumbs.

The Grill at Quail Creek, a restaurant at the Robson Resort Community in Green Valley, offers a pan-seared scallop dish that executive chef Aris Cabrera says is the restaurant’s most popular menu item. “I really love the contrast with the sweetness and the spiciness and the earthy flavors of ginger and lemongrass,” he says.

In honor of exploring all things alien at the International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell, New Mexico, for the February 2018 Great Escape, we are rounding up our own state's top three UFO stories.

According to information from the National UFO Reporting Center and the Mutual UFO Network, Maricopa County was recorded as having the second-most UFO sightings between 2001 and 2015 compared to all U.S. counties. In all, there were 2,523 reported sightings in 15 years. Los Angeles County was the number one place to spot a UFO.

Tis the season... to be eating your own weight in green bean casserole, turkey and pumpkin pie and regretting it in the morning (but not really). Not a fan of typical turkey or want something more high-end? Or perhaps you're sick of being stuck in the kitchen rather than participating in the super fun familial political arguments. In Phoenix, there's something for everyone this Thanksgiving.

Folsky rhythms poured from the doors of the Crescent Ballroom lounge last night as The Sugar Thieves took the stage. It started with some simple strums of the guitar and plucking of the upright bass, then Meridith Moore's voice swooped in and quickly filled the room. Before playing for an admirable two hours – Moore is pregnant, after all! – I spoke with her about the band, Americana music and what the future holds for Tempe's own blues band.

Each month, we of the PHOENIX magazine creative team ask ourselves a different question about our favorite dining and drinking experiences in the Valley. Our picks are usually hidden in the back of the magazine among our Dining Guide restaurant listings. Not any more. Our picks are going digital! Feel free to follow us on social media (at least, those of us who tweet) and be sure to tag us (@PhoenixMagazine on Twitter and @PHXMagazine on Instagram) on pics of your favorite picks.

August 19 is National Potato Day. In honor of this holiday we're asking ourselves, What's your favorite spuds-cenric dish in the Valley?

I step onto the platform and grab the bar with a grip so strong my palms start to ache. But pulling up the weight, I look in the gym’s mirror and see no pain on my face, only motivation and determination.

When you hear the term powerlifting, you might think of a CrossFit gym with bulky bros and an absurd pull-up requirement. But in powerlifting, the movements are more controlled using heavier weight, whereas cross training is about practicing many different exercises. The main goal is to lift as much weight as possible. And maybe a little more.

As editors of a city lifestyle magazine with a travel section that covers locales far beyond our beloved Phoenix Valley, you can imagine that we get pitched A TON about new and exciting travel offers around the country. Of course, we can't fit everything into a 200 page monthly magazine that only allots five of those pages to regional travel. Sigh... 'tis the nature of publishing.

But it pains us too much to kill all of our darlings. So each month, we scrape a few travel tidbits off the cutting room floor and bring you Travel Bag Bites – bite-sized travel-related goodies (special offers, activities and deals) to snack on while planning your next great escape.

"Any time that I'm traveling, I always try to glean as much perspective as I can from other chefs and what they're doing," says Christopher Brugman, chef de cuisine at Hearth '61 at the new Mountain Shadows resort in Paradise Valley.

Visiting his sister in Atlanta last fall, the chef mixed business with pleasure. "[Atlanta has] a really eclectic food scene. There are three [restaurants] that really set it off for me as far as excitement, and thoughtfulness, and playfulness, and uniqueness of represntation of how they dine and how their hospitality is different."
