Here’s a way to get away from it all this weekend: The Camelback Studio Tour and Art Sale gives guests the opportunity to view and purchase pieces from 14 different artists in the intimate setting of four home art studios in Sherwood Heights, Scottsdale.  “The Camelback Studio Tour and Art Sale not only offers art enthusiasts a chance to mix and mingle with their favorite artists and see current works in their own studios,” Lynn...

Many people know Alex Stratta as a Michelin-starred, James Beard award-winning chef. His storied career includes stints at Mary Elaine’s at The Phoenician, the eponymous Alex restaurant inside the Wynn Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, and most recently as executive chef of Wright’s at Arizona Biltmore. After enjoying top billing at many fine dining restaurants locally and in Las Vegas, Stratta is pivoting and opening a casual restaurant, Stratta Kitchen in Scottsdale. The restaurant,...

Hidden in plain sight, Sel is exactly the kind of place you want in Old Town nestled among art galleries, with its sophisticated flavors, chic modern vibe and dishes that look like works of art. When I walked in, its contemporary décor with accents of tufted purple velour and crystal chandeliers reminded me of a place one would find in Palm Springs or Miami. The clientele was a mix of young professionals, intimate dates and...

THE SCENE While I love our new office at The Quad business/restaurant complex in the south Scottsdale/Arcadia area, there are quite a few things I miss about our old office at Scottsdale Quarter in north Scottsdale. Chief among them are Press Coffee (where I was a daily visitor) and Sorso Wine Room, the first wine bar I fell for as a nascent wino and a frequent happy hour haunt for PHOENIX and Phoenix Home &...

Donut Bar’s Scottsdale location closed abruptly last week, according to an Instagram post from franchise owner Sheley Brien. The San Diego-based donut shop known for its extravagant, Instagram-worthy culinary concoctions, opened in The Promenade shopping center in November 2018. “We regretfully announce the closure of Donut Bar Scottsdale on Monday, October 16th, 2019. We have enjoyed being a part of our hometown community and appreciate how welcoming everyone was to us,” the post says. “We...

I admittedly don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but I’m certainly a sucker for a good selfie opportunity. That’s why I decided to check out Candytopia, an interactive art installation that would make Willy Wonka jealous. The spectacularly sweet pop-up, which features candy-coated art, a massive marshmallow pit and confetti cannons, just landed at Scottsdale Quarter. Candytopia allows you to roam from room to room, where you’ll find everything from the Mona Lisa made...

Fast fashion and Amazon Prime are dominating the shopping world, but that doesn’t mean that the era of brick-and-mortar is over – at least, not in Scottsdale. The Merchantile, an indoor boutique marketplace currently under construction, plans to host a mish-mash of local businesses under one roof. Slated to sell jewelry, clothes and home decor, the “co-retailing experience” is meant to support local vendors by alleviating the stress of pricey overhead costs. These woes are...
