Weddings, childbirth and moving – they’re the holy trinity of modern American stress, and Chad Olsen has built a career around one of them. “You have a wedding planner and a team for childbirth. We’re the moving team,” the Camelback Moving founder and president says. A lot has changed since he started the company as a “side hustle” in 2005, moving friends and family across Phoenix in his pickup truck. “It kind of took on a life of its own… and many of my friends who I’d recruit to help, the running joke became, ‘We ought to start getting paid to do this.’” Within a few years, Olsen left his job at Goldwater’s Foods of Arizona to focus full-time on his growing moving company, which now boasts a fleet of 20 trucks and more than 100 employees. Camelback Moving has completed nearly 80,000 moves and has won our Readers’ Pick for Best Movers every year since we launched the category in 2016, a distinction Olsen attributes to the company’s integrity, transparency and concierge-level client experience. “We’re not just providing labor, trucks or furniture pads, we’re providing a structure to make this day manageable,” he says.
Camelback Moving offers local and interstate residential moves and has grown to include a commercial division with a construction arm. Olsen has helped relocate families, athletes, celebrities, businesses, libraries, schools and government offices, but he says the most meaningful moves are the ones that give back. Each year, Camelback Moving hosts a holiday toy drive that delivers truckloads of presents to families in need on the Navajo Nation. “My industry is trucking and manpower, but the business I’m in is customer service,” Olsen says. “And our goal is more than just that – it’s a hospitality experience.” camelbackmoving.com
