Worst Ligament
Corbin Burnes’s UCL

Early on, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ six-year/$210-million investment in starting pitcher Corbin Burnes – so uncharacteristic for the famously frugal franchise – appeared to be sound. But after two months of impressive returns, including a scoreless outing against the Dodgers in May, Burnes felt a pop in his elbow, and now it’s sayonara until 2026 at least. We’re still glad they tried. dbacks.com

Worst Legislation
Goldwater Institute’s Anti-Film-Credit Bill

We can theoretically get behind the Goldwater Institute’s campaign against DEI overreach and we’ll certainly support the conservative think tank’s holy war against pickleball taxes, but Arizona’s modest film production credit? C’mon, guys. Ease up. The last movie anyone shot in Arizona was almost certainly a low-budget porn flick. It’s time for the land of Rio Bravo to get its groove back.

Worst Public Service Ad
Tom Horne’s TV Ads for Homeless Students

Over the last year, State Superintendent of Schools Tom Horne has cast himself in TV commercials telling families experiencing homelessness to “raise their hand” and enroll their kids in school. Great message, but since it’s unlikely the intended audience owns a television, buying airtime for these ads seems like a performative, free campaign ad.
