Usually, when someone tells us to “smile” it causes us to roll our eyes, at best. But while viewing this mural by “Just” Giovannie, located on the back wall of the Cambria Downtown Phoenix, we can’t help but break out in a grin. By the time we read the “Smile” prompt in the conversation bubble, we already are.

This smiling face is the gatekeeper to an alley packed with work by notable Phoenix artists.

Adrian Ramirez’s Picasso-esque take on a smile comes next. Per his Instagram, the work was inspired by J. Cole’s song “Crooked Smile.” Ramirez’s bold colors and abstract style are followed by Clyde Graffiti’s cool tones and realism.

The details are astounding in Clyde’s piece portraying a bespectacled face peering through a vase of hydrangeas.

Next is a work in progress by Ashley Macias. We are eager to see what the finished product by this surrealist painter will look like.

Bookending the wall is John “MDMN” Moody’s pop art rendition. The conversation bubble on this end contains a peace sign, reinforcing the overall theme of positivity flowing through all the works on the wall.

Access to these murals can be found behind Cambria, in the alley across from KHLA.
