Mesquite Fresh Street Mex co-founders and brothers Ahmad and Naser Alatrash  are taking a different approach to marketing their modern Mexican cuisine. Instead of spending money on social media and other advertising, they’ve launched a “Free Taco Tour” available to businesses located within a four-mile radius of their Surprise, Gilbert, Mesa and Happy Valley locations. The tour gives the brothers an opportunity to connect with local businesses and area residents, Ahmad says.

To take part in the tour, businesses in each four-mile area must complete an application on the Mesquite Fresh website and specify a date, time and the number of employees expected. The tour is limited to groups of 30 to 100. “We’ll come out, set up and be there for about an hour and serve whoever comes,” Ahmad says.

While the restaurant also serves burritos, bowls and quesadillas, tacos are by far the most popular, Ahmad says. “That’s what we built the business on. And everything at Mesquite Fresh is made from scratch. We don’t have freezers, so nothing’s ever frozen.”

The brothers currently have eight Valley locations with plans to launch more in 2022 and beyond.

Meanwhile, Mesquite Fresh Street Mex aims to give away 40,000 tacos during  the “Free Taco Tour” to surrounding Arizona businesses through 2021. Free tacos? Yes, please.
