What’s the most challenging part of your job?
The most challenging part of my job is making sure we live up to our motto of “Where people mean everything.” We try to think of ourselves as being in the customer service business but we just happen to do dentistry. At times we make mistakes, but when we do, we resolve them as quickly as possible and learn from them so they don’t get repeated. The most gratifying part is building strong relationships with my patients.
What’s the latest trend in cosmetic dentistry? Veneers, gum contouring, new teeth-whitening technology?
The latest trends are leaning more towards conservative procedures. The ability to make computerized crowns in one visit has allowed us to treat teeth more conservatively with less trauma to the tooth. Also, advancements in dental materials have made it so we can remove less tooth for smile makeover procedures while getting some amazing results.
Do cosmetic dentistry patients get “addicted” to procedures like cosmetic surgery enthusiasts?
We really don’t see that behavior in dentistry. The great thing about cosmetic dentistry is that the results last for 15 to 20 years. If it is done right the first time, there is no need to keep going back for more.
Do you feel immediately judged by your teeth when people find out you’re a dentist?
Absolutely. Once they find out I’m a dentist, the first thing they do is look at my teeth. Having a good smile does wonders for your self-confidence. I know this because I’ve gone through the process of changing my smile. I know firsthand what a difference it can make.
Which foods are the absolute worst for your teeth?
The worst foods are acidic or high in sugar content. Some of these include sports drinks, dried fruit, soda and hard candies. The best foods are those high in calcium and phosphorous content like nuts, cheese and milk.
Which celebrity do you think has the most attractive smile?
It’s a tie between Halle Berry and Christie Brinkley.
