Oral Surgery

Dental School: New York University

Years in Practice: 13

What is the single most common procedure you perform as an oral surgeon? Is that typical for most practices?
I would say wisdom teeth [extractions] are the most common. We definitely also do a large volume of full-mouth reconstruction and implants, as that is something our practice is known for.

You’re the go-to guy for rare and complex dental reconstruction. Do patients come from around the world to receive care from you? What’s the farthest someone has traveled?
Yes, [they come] from all over the world to see me at my implant center for jaw reconstruction… the farthest was when a patient brought their parent from India to have a full mouth reconstructed.

Under what circumstances would a patient need a jaw reconstruction?
In all kinds of different circumstances – some due to long-term neglect or habits such as drug use, and others due to trauma or bad luck. A lot of these patients have been rehabilitated and now want to reconstruct their smiles so they can continue on their journey. Most recently, I met an amazing patient who had lost his entire upper jaw during COVID. I was able to fully reconstruct his upper jaw with zygomatic and regular dental implants.

What is the most challenging part of your job? The most rewarding?
It’s always a challenge to come up with the best course of treatment when sometimes a patient has waited too long to get the issue addressed. However, figuring out the right approach that works for them is equally rewarding. In addition, I get to work with an amazing team at our state-of-the-art office.

You have twin boys! What’s it like having young twins?
They keep us busy! I truly enjoy being a dad and they are both amazing kids. When we’re not camped out at a soccer field or a golf tournament, I love to hang out with them at home and play billiards and pickleball.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work and family?
Traveling and sports. I love to explore new places, different cuisines and cultures.

What’s the funniest thing a patient has said to you on nitrous oxide?
A patient once sang an entire song for me, post-procedure, while still under anesthesia!

“If I wasn’t a dentist, I’d be…”
A lawyer.
