Worst Use of State Resources
State Sen. Anthony Kern
The Republican lawmaker is a walking PAYDAY bar of wingnuttiness, from attending the January 6 Capitol riot to speaking in tongues on the Arizona Senate floor. But the now-indicted fake elector jumped the proverbial shark when he used the Senate’s broadcast equipment to appear on the podcast of a white supremacist Holocaust-denier who calls Adolf Hitler a “hero.” Stripped of his broadcast privileges, Kern still chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, where crazy rules the roost.
Worst First Amendment Whining
ASU Anti-Israel Protesters
With anti-Israel protests roiling across U.S. colleges this spring, ASU students set up a tent city on campus and refused to take it down when ordered. Result: The encampment was demolished and 72 students were arrested for trespassing. Outraged students alleged their 1A rights were being trampled. Really? When your speech ventures into civil disobedience, you gotta be willing and ready to be arrested. These kids should Google “Civil Rights Movement” or “Vietnam War protests” to learn how the Boomers owned it.
Worst Privatization Play
Proposed Sale of Arizona Highways
Published by the Arizona Department of Transportation since 1925, Arizona Highways is an institution. It has 107,000 subscribers and is responsible for $43.1 million per year in tourism revenue for the state, according to ADOT. So why did State Rep. Leo Biasiucci try to force its sale to the private sector? Coincidentally, one of the bill’s most vocal backers, Arizona Foothills owner Aaron Klusman, testified before a House committee that the bill would potentially benefit… Klusman. Thankfully, the legislature wasn’t buying it.
