Ask Rabbi Jordan Brumer why he purchased Kitchen 18, a kosher restaurant in Scottsdale, and he’ll tell you he fell off a chair, banged his head and the next thing he knew, he owned a restaurant. All kidding aside, “It was a childhood dream of mine,” says Brumer, the former director of Jewish Arizonans on Campus.
When Brumer bought the restaurant from Nathan Uvaydov in May 2021, the kitchen and dining room had recently been remodeled. “Nathan has done a really fantastic job of creating a wonderful business and restaurant,” Brumer says. “We made a few minor tweaks.”
Since the restaurant is kosher, Kitchen 18 follows strict dietary standards and practices. The non-dairy kitchen serves 100 percent kosher, all-natural and grass-fed meats. “Kosher meat is known for being healthier,” Brumer says. The restaurant also has vegan and vegetarian options.
Kitchen 18 is already popular with the Jewish community, and Brumer hopes to attract the broader community with the restaurant’s vast menu of fresh, kosher food. The bill of fare includes everything from appetizers and salads to fish, beef, chicken and pasta entrees and Chinese dishes. “Everything is made from scratch and we’re known for very large portions,” Brumer says. Kitchen 18 also serves kosher wine, beer and specialty cocktails.
