Ski slopes calling? Snowbowl and Sunrise are plenty nice, but sometimes you need a deeper base.

During the holiday season, Lake Tahoe transforms into a winter wonderland, and nestled near that state-border-straddling body of water in the Sierra Nevada mountains is Everline Resort & Spa. Located in Olympic Valley (known as Squaw Valley when it hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics) just a few miles northwest of the lake, the California resort offers ski-in/ski-out access to Palisades Tahoe, the “third-largest ski resort in North America,” according to Everline marketing manager Nadia Summers, with 6,000 acres of skiable terrain. “Our resort [offers] a little bit of everything,” she adds, including a spa, fitness center and several in-house dining options, including Iron Road Noodle House, set to open this winter. Not a skier? There’s also ice skating, snowshoeing and a life-size gingerbread village. November and December rates start at $350/night. everlineresort.com
