You have a bachelor of science in marine biology and environmental policy. What ultimately led you to pursue a career in law?
While I greatly enjoyed conducting field research in marine biology, I found the policy implications of my work to be the most compelling. This led me to take an environmental law course in college, where I discovered my true path.
So, your background in science has helped you as an energy and water attorney?
Definitely. Both energy and water law are deeply technical and rely on scientific principles. My science background helps me bridge the gap between scientific and legal perspectives, enhancing my ability to advocate for my clients and address their needs more effectively.
Who or what is your typical client?
Usually they’re large industrial customers, renewable energy developers and water and wastewater utilities in matters before the Arizona Corporation Commission.
What is one thing people should know about energy law in Arizona?
I wish more people were aware of Arizona Corporation Commission’s role in regulating our utilities. The commission is so important because it’s directly involved with setting utility rates, ensuring reliable service and overseeing infrastructure investments.
You are a world traveler! Which destination(s) is next on your bucket list?
No. 1 on my bucket list is Australia. I would love to dive the Great Barrier Reef.
If I wasn’t a lawyer, I’d be…”
A baker! Baking is a skill passed down through generations in my family, and it has become one of my favorite hobbies.
