Harvey’s Wineburger
4812 N. 16th St., Phoenix, 602-248-9950, harveyswineburger.com

  1. Classic CenPho burger bar (est. 1959) anoints each sizzling, hand-pressed beef patty with a splash of Claret on the grill. Presto: “wineburger.”
  2. Served on impeccably toasted rye with bacon, grilled mushrooms, caramelized onions and, if you like, a smear of house-made garlic sauce. Pro tip: Get the f*@%ing garlic sauce.
  3. Tastes like a lifetime of high cholesterol panels in your mouth, and God bless it for that. Available until midnight weekend nights.

Pomeroy’s
5555 N. Seventh St., Phoenix, 602-264-5411

  1. Deliciously dive-y Uptown billiards bar sports an underrated kitchen, headlined by its iconic patty melt.
  2. Made smash-style: rare on the inside, judiciously seared on the outside, pressed between golden-toasted rye with grilled onions and a mantling of white American cheese.
  3. The kitchen serves them until 1 a.m. nightly, making Pomeroy’s a cult favorite of late-working hospitality pros and gig-economy workers. Rack ’em up!
