Sample sliders for a good cause at Kierland Commons at the 2019 Slider Throwdown, which will take place on Sunday, November 17 from noon to 3 p.m.
The burger battle, which features local food truck vendors competing for the coveted “Best Slider” title, will benefit the Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation (AFFCF), a nonprofit that provides programming and scholarships to foster children throughout the state.
“Our mission is to help foster children navigate the difficult and often unchartered waters of foster care by providing them with valuable resources as well as opportunities to participate in childhood activities that promote confidence and independence so they can grow into responsible, happy adults,” says Kris Jacober, executive director of the AFFCF. “With popular events like the Slider Throwdown, we are thrilled and grateful to see the public aid in our mission to build up our community’s youth.”
Participating food trucks include Drive Wood Fired Grill, Aioli Burger, Buzz N Bee, Two Fat Guys Grilled Cheese, Food Diva and Petrini’s on the Go. A panel of slider experts will judge the burgers based on creativity and taste. Attendees also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite slider, which will receive the People’s Choice Award.
Admission is $35, which includes slider samples and three non-alcoholic drink tickets. The event will also feature a silent auction and live music provided by local band Lane Change.
