When Italian architect and urban planner Paolo Soleri built the experimental town of Arcosanti more than 50 years ago in Mayer, about 70 miles north of Phoenix, he probably didn’t imagine it would one day play host to a trippy music festival. But FORM, its signature event, returns from an extended hiatus this October for its 10th anniversary (experienceform.com). Even if you don’t get tickets to see James Blake, Skrillex and more, you can still explore Arcosanti’s organic, futuristic dome structures and sci-fi-worthy buildings.

Town Square

The town square is one of the most photographed and most utilized areas within Arcosanti. It’s instantly recognizable by its sprawling, colorful arched cover that showcases the benefits of arcology via a design that offers more or less shade to the area depending on the time of year.
