Talking Stick Resort’s new Mediterranean restaurant, Tash, opened on February 6 to great fanfare. The menu fuses food from different cultures, a drink list including everything from margaritas to other popular mixed drinks and incredible views of Camelback Mountain. I got the scoop at a recent media lunch.

The Scene
Patrons are immediately greeted with commanding views when walking up the stairs that lead to the restaurant, which is anchored by a huge, modern bar with granite counters and a plethora of bottles on display. The restaurant features traditional booths and tables, perfect for a date night. A patio freckled with couches and chairs allows for a more laidback feel to your evening. The bar can be accessed from either side of the restaurant, ensuring nobody has to go without a drink. On the south side, you’ll see part of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, where sometimes you can spot wild horses.
The Highlights
Are you the designated driver? That’s not a problem. You can still sip in style with Tash’s Free Spirit Menu. There are several non-alcoholic cocktails to choose from, including the La Liberta ($8), which includes cucumber, rosemary and lime.
However, if you’re not driving home, the citrusy Verona Margarita ($15) is a standout. The sweet and tangy concoction contains tequila, amaretto, limoncello and blood orange. You can even watch the bartender do tricks with the bottles, including flipping it behind their back and catching it.
The drinks were great but the highlight was the food. I started with the Paella Mixta ($29), a flavorful dish with Spanish rice, clams, shrimp, chicken and sausage. The flavors were bright and powerful, yet not overpowering. Tash’s pizza, which boasts a variety of excellent toppings including prosciutto and arugula, comes out of the oven in 90 seconds.
Next time I visit Tash, I’ll definitely be looking into the Grilled Swordfish or the Piri Piri Shrimp.
