Every week, we present a curated list of live music in a wide range of genres around the Valley.
This week: a band who wants fans to wear banana suits.

June 30
Dance Gavin Dance

Goaded by the punk band End It, a Toronto audience attacked a fellow fan dressed in a banana suit in June, ripping the costume to shreds and inspiring a viral debate about the proper attire at punk shows. PHOENIX is officially neutral on the topic – though we wonder why anyone would purposely make themselves warmer during one of our summers. Meanwhile, Andrew Wells of the post-hardcore band Dance Gavin Dance wants fans to know that their shows are a safe space for banana fans or anyone else who may want to dress up. 6:30 p.m. Check website for ticket prices. The Van Buren, 401 W. Van Buren St., Phoenix, 480-659-1641, livenation.com

 June 30
Claypool Gold

Speaking of costumes, fans of Les Claypool often let their freak flag fly at his concerts. Expect things to get crazy when the bass virtuoso brings all three of his projects – Primus, The Claypool Lennon Delirium and the Fearless Flying Frog Brigade – together for one big show. 8 p.m. Check website for ticket prices. Arizona Financial Theatre, 400 W. Washington St., Phoenix, 602-514-2919, livenation.com

 June 30
Armor For Sleep

The title of the emo band’s new album was inspired by an error message Ben Jorgensen received right before his computer crashed: “THERE IS NO MEMORY.” It prompted the frontman to reflect on the power his past experiences have over him, and that theme runs through what many are calling the band’s best album yet. But if you’re going to the show, just remember to bring your ticket. 7 p.m. $29.50 plus fees. Crescent Ballroom, 308 N. Second Ave., Phoenix, 602-716-2222 crescentphx.com

 July 1
Don Tolliver

We’re not saying that you shouldn’t arrive promptly to see Don Tolliver’s headlining tour when it arrives in Downtown Phoenix, but you could probably afford to be a little late. The show boasts three openers, which seems excessive when the “After Party” artist is reportedly performing a 32-song setlist. So yeah, maybe grab that extra drink before the show starts. 7:30 p.m. Check website for ticket prices. Mortgage Matchup Center, 201 E. Jefferson St., Phoenix, 602-379-7800, mortgagematchupcenter.com

 July 3
Hilary Duff

The Lizzie McGuire star is taking a break from her mom group to go on a world tour in support of her latest album, titled luck… or something. 7 p.m. Check website for ticket prices. Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre, 2121 N. 83rd Ave., Phoenix, livenation.com
