For Arizonans looking to add a new furry friend to their home, restaurant patios around the state will soon bark with adoptable pets for National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day. Each event invites guests to mingle with adoptable pets, support local rescue groups and spend quality time with four-legged friends.

The events will take place on Thursday, April 30, at locally owned POV Foods restaurants.

“At the end of the day, we just want it to be fun,” says Janeth Moore, vice president of operations for POV Foods. “A fun event with no pressure. People come in… enjoy a drink and have something to eat, and maybe meet their forever new best friend.”

Lakeside Bar and Grill in Peoria will celebrate from 5-9 p.m. with a Yappy Hour for guests to meet pets in a relaxed sports bar environment. Dogs in attendance will receive a free item from Lakeside’s Tail Wagger menu, and 20 percent of all sales will go to participating rescue organizations.

In North Phoenix, 32 Shea will host an adoption event starting at 4 p.m. on its dog-friendly, tree-lined patio. Guests can enjoy live music and food in the company of canines available for same-day adoption. Adoption fees range from $150 for senior dogs to $250 for younger dogs. To celebrate the creation of new pet families, 32 Shea will provide water, pup cups and complimentary lunch or dinner for guests who adopt a dog.

At Red, White & Brew in Prescott, the nonprofit United Animal Friends will be on-site from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to share information about adoptable pets and the adoption process, which involves a home visit before placement. Guests attending the Prescott event are encouraged to bring their dogs for a free Puppy Patty, take photos with a photographer near the restaurant’s pet-friendly fire hydrant and enter raffles for the chance to win complimentary grooming services.

Don’t miss out on an opportunity to share some love with shelter pets or maybe even welcome one into your home!
