Wilderness Miracle Mile is the third Valley location for the award-winning brewer.

Arizona Wilderness Brewing intentionally took the words “brewing” and “Arizona” out of the name for its new Phoenix location near 16th Street and McDowell Road. Instead, it’s leaning into the Miracle Mile monicker, a nod to the historical business district in Phoenix that thrived in the 1950’s.

Wilderness Miracle Mile officially opened for business on Thursday, April 24 after months of refurbishing an old building  formerly  home to multiple businesses, including a commercial florist, a piano store, a jeweler, a laundromat, and the Stardust Tavern. Reuse is another passion near and dear to  the folks at Wilderness.

“The adaptive reuse of buildings in and around Phoenix is central to AZW’s mission,” says Alyx Simon, marketing manager for Arizona Wilderness Brewing. “With new builds you are taking on a lot of resources and expansion of desert land. We are using a building that was already there and has a historic presence giving it a true heart and soul of Phoenix. The best buildings are the ones that are already built.”

The heart and soul of AZW beer production now shifts to the new McDowell location. All the brewing operations for Arizona Wilderness will soon take place out of Miracle Mile, which has more space and new equipment to allow for more efficiency and an increase in production capacity. Brewing out of the original Gilbert brewpub will come to an end in the near future, but that location doesn’t anticipate slowing down or losing vibes.

“Our Gilbert location will still remain the same great place!” Simon tells PHOENIX. “We may expand our seating opportunities to give room for more guests to come and visit us.”

In addition to nearly two dozen beers on tap, Wilderness Miracle Mile also has guest cider, mead and wine; along with its own cocktail menu and a full food menu of burgers, sandwiches, bowls and shareables. AZWMM caters to a lunch and dinner crowd, open 11am to 10pm every day of the week.

PHOENIX was invited to a VIP event the night before grand opening to get a look inside the new Wilderness Miracle Mile and sample the beer and food menu. The interior is highlighted by a giant U-shaped bar in the middle, with hi-top tables and pub-style seating in the surrounding space. Large windows on one wall invite guests to peek into the production area, and another windowed wall looks out to McDowell Road.

The beer menu is anchored by an easy-drinking 4.6% ABV English Mild named Miracle Mild, a new flagship beer for the McDowell location. With a roasty aroma and sweet finish, the Miracle Mild is a working man’s beer, perfect to enjoy after a 9-to-5. You’ll find plenty of other offerings such as Refuge IPA, West Clear, Cactus Juice and the rest of the beer lineup that Arizona Wilderness is known for.

The food menu at McDowell is slightly different than what you’ll find at the Downtown Phoenix beer garden or Gilbert locations. The Big McDowell burger I ordered was a bit dry and severely unseasoned but the cottage fries (shaped like a ridged potato chip) that come with it are amazing. My “plus-one” guest ordered The Hatched burger and raved about how delicious it was. The rest of the menu features a range of sandwiches, bowls, shareables and cheesecake stuffed churros for dessert.
