It has been a year since I last shared updates on Los Milics Vineyards, the winery in Elgin my partners and I launched five years ago. As we approach the end of 2023, it feels an apt time. In my previous communication about LMV, I hinted at a wine aging in amphorae, earthen jugs used by ancient Greek and Roman winemakers. Our first vintage was mostly composed of Cabernet Franc with a touch of Petit Verdot. To engage our wine club members, we organized a contest, allowing them to design the label and name the wine. Bottled after a precocious 13-month élevage to capture its liveliness and fruitiness, the 2022 Violeta’s will be released in February 2024. We can’t wait for you to try it.

We have also finally received approval to proceed with the lodging component of our project. We will be offering nine one-bedroom casitas perched on the vineyard, all facing the Mustang Mountains and the quiet gravitas of Mt. Bruce (aka The Biscuit). Like any project, we faced delays, some due to the nature of submitting plans and the required information for the county. However, after receiving and processing through comments, we have been given the green light. We anticipate welcoming you to stay on the property in April 2024.

As I often like to say, we sometimes question our existence in the Phoenix metro at the peak of summer, when temperatures begin to melt our wings. That’s when you must come down to Southern Arizona to enjoy evenings in the high 60s and take in star-filled skies. If you’re lucky, a yellow finch or red vermilion might fly by while you enjoy your morning coffee, roasted by none other than David Anderson’s ROC2 team. So, come on down and bring that book you’ve been threatening to read!
