Across the Pond, the snazzy sushi and cocktail spot at Clever Koi in Phoenix, recently launched a new and improved culinary experience. On April 13, Across the Pond started offering omakase, a traditional Japanese word that translates to “entrust.” During an omakase tasting, diners allow the chef to select each dish instead of ordering from a menu.
Across the Pond’s omakase consists of 12 courses that are completely customized for each guest. The restaurant keeps records of each tasting so the menu is never repeated. Each tasting is $120 per person, lasts for about two hours and takes place at the end of the bar right in front of the sushi case so guests can see the chefs at work.
For now, the experience is by reservation only, with seatings at 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings. A deposit is required when making a reservation.
Across the Pond is the brainchild of bar manager Joshua James and general manager Nick Campisano, who are also the owners of Clever Koi, Fellow Osteria and a new fast-casual concept called Clever Ramen coming this spring.
The duo decided to offer omakase to create an experience tailored to each individual guest.
“This omakase experience is the best way to showcase what our chefs are able to do, while also providing a unique and unforgettable dining experience,” Campisano says.
Across the Pond is open from 5 p.m. to midnight Tuesday through Sunday.
