A few years ago, when I was still an ASU student and an intern at PHOENIX, I was assigned a story on local podcasts. In the two-plus years since that piece was published, I’ve decided to revisit our local podcast scene to see what’s new and what I still enjoy listening to.

Valley 101
Brought to you by the audio team at azcentral, Valley 101 seeks to answer questions you’ve probably always wondered about the Valley. They cover topics such as Arizona celebrities, why planes can’t take off when it’s 120+ degrees outside, the “Five Cs” of Arizona and more.

Small Town Murder
This podcast is recommended to me nearly every time I open up Spotify. With over 150 episodes, this show is making a name for itself. It follows two comedians and their exploration of murder in – you guessed it – a small town.

What We Said
This is an AZ-adjacent post, as neither of the hosts currently reside in the Phoenix metropolitan area, but they frequently refer to their Southwestern roots. Jaci and Chelsey cover pop culture, lifestyle changes and more. It’s a nice break from my usual true crime-filled commute!

Finding Arizona
If you’re someone who loves to shop/eat/browse local, you’ll love Finding Arizona. The show’s host, Jose Acevedo, interviews local business owners from across the state to find out what makes people passionate about the work they do.

For more than 50 years, PHOENIX magazine's experienced writers, editors, and designers have captured all sides of the Valley with award-winning and insightful writing, and groundbreaking report and design. Our expository features, narratives, profiles, and investigative features keep our 385,000 readers in touch with the Valley's latest trends, events, personalities and places.
