Trailing Off: Enchantment Resort in Sedona, profiled at the top of this Explore section, is certainly all-in with the trail thing. In late October, the 218-room resort – epically ensconced in lush Boynton Canyon – broke ground on the Trail House, a one-of-a-kind staging lounge for hiking and biking that will open in summer 2020. More details to come.

Leaf-Peeper Alert: With prime fall color lasting just a few weeks in Arizona, Amara Resort and Spa in Sedona is offering four different fall packages starting at $272/night, including a hiking-themed number with a packed lunch from on-site restaurant SaltRock. The leaf ogling, you do on your own.

Maui Wowie: The resort that kick-started America’s love affair with Maui recently “had some work done,” in plastic surgery parlance. Fall visitors at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, which opened way back in 1963, will have access to a new lobby bar and expansive lanai (or “porch,” to us haoles) and viewing deck. And as always: the island’s best walk-in snorkeling.
