Nine Inch Nails
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross don’t use the moniker Nine Inch Nails when scoring films like Soul and The Social Network. However, they made an exception when they began working on the soundtrack to the upcoming Disney film, Tron: Ares. But watch out, parents: With the song “As Alive as You Need Me to Be” putting the industrial music duo back on the charts, could this mean your kids will discover “Closer” and other songs from its provocative back catalog? 7:30 p.m. Check website for ticket prices. The Swell Season
You may recall the folk duo The Swell Season, comprising Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, performing the ballad “Falling Slowly” at the 2008 Oscars. The track appeared in the indie film Once, which was inspired by the romance between the two. However, nothing good lasts forever, and the couple’s follow-up, 2009’s Strict Joy, would mark the end of their romantic and professional relationship. There is a silver lining to this story, though. Despite starting families of their own, the two remained friends. Then, more than 15 years later, Hansard and Irglová found their way into each other’s professional lives again and reunited for the album, Forward. They’re now touring in support of the critically acclaimed project. 8 p.m., $66-$86, Ikeda Theater at Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St., Mesa, 480-644-6500, mesaartscenter.com
