Every week, we present a curated list of live music in a wide range of genres around the Valley, and this week’s column features music that sounds cinematic.

NEEDTOBREATHE
It’s hard to ignore the sincerity in the music of the South Carolina-based indie Christian folk band, which must be why songs like “Brother,” their collaboration with Gavin DeGraw, and “Who Am I” keep finding their way on the charts. The soberness of their lyrics would pair exceptionally well with a scene in your favorite rom-com. 7 p.m., $29.95-$83.50, Arizona Financial Theatre, 400 W. Washington St., Phoenix, 602-514-2919, livenation.com

Dave Mason
The guitarist is perhaps best known for penning “Feelin’ Alright,” which he composed while a member of the group Traffic. You can often hear Joe Cocker’s take during the trailer of your favorite comedy. 7:30 p.m., $35-$85, Celebrity Theatre, 440 N. 32nd St., Phoenix, 602-267-1600, celebritytheatre.com

Deer Tick
The indie blues-rock outfit has developed into one of those mythical road bands with legions of fans following their every performance, which is why when the Rhode Island band recently took on Bruce Springsteen’s hit “Dancing In the Dark,” it felt a little off, like one of those throwaway tracks you’d hear when the credits roll in a ’90s film. 7:30 p.m., $28.50-$38.50, Crescent Ballroom, 308 N. 2nd Ave., Phoenix, 602-716-2222, crescentphx.com

The Cult
Speaking of movie soundtracks, The Cult had a minor hit with “Painted On My Heart,” which played during the love scenes in Gone In 60 Seconds. But the “She Sells Sanctuary” group has always been a visual band, from their Easy Rider-inspired attire to their visceral lyrics. They were made for MTV. 8 p.m., $55-$99, Showroom at Wild Horse Pass, 5040 Wild Horse Pass Blvd., Chandler, 800-946-4452, playatgila.com

SZA
The Grammy-winning R&B singer’s SOS Tour takes inspiration from Tarantino, Titanic and Disney films. It sounds a little unusual, but knowing the Crtl artist, it will all come together brilliantly. 8 p.m., $34.50-$174.50, Footprint Center, 201 E. Jefferson St., Phoenix, 602-379-7800, footprintcenter.com
