Every week, we present a curated list of live music in a wide range of genres around the Valley. This week, we feature artists with a lot to say.
May 5
Hayley Williams
The Paramore frontwoman gained considerable attention for her critically acclaimed solo album, Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party, not just for the way it was released (she originally put it out herself on a website connected to her hair dye brand), but for mentioning a “racist country singer’s bar” in Nashville in the title track’s lyrics. She revealed it was Morgan Wallen during a podcast interview a few weeks later. Williams called out his use of racial slurs in 2021 because she believes that music should create a safe space for everyone. 7 p.m. Check website for ticket prices. The Van Buren, 401 W. Van Buren St., Phoenix, 480-659-1641, livenation.com
May 6-7
Baby Keem
Originally, only one Phoenix date was scheduled for the “Orange Soda” rapper and cousin and protégé of Kendrick Lamar. But on his electrifying latest album, titled Ca$ino, he’s proven he is just as talented as his Pulitzer Prize-winning relative, which is likely why an additional Valley date was added. 8:30 p.m. Check website for ticket prices. Tripping Daisy
Fans have long wondered what heights Tripping Daisy could have reached if the 1990s alt-band had called it quits in 1999 after the death of guitarist Wes Buerggren. Much of that speculation was spurred by what its remaining members created a few years after its breakup: The Polyphonic Spree. Now, after years of anticipation and several false starts, the “I Got a Girl” band triumphantly returned in 2024. But before dropping new material, it is set to perform its breakthrough album, I Am an Elastic Firecracker, in full, along with other beloved hits. 8 p.m. $29-$33. The Rebel Lounge, 2303 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix, therebellounge.com
May 7
Raye
The London-based pop star behind “Escapism” is hitting the road to celebrate her sophomore album, The Music May Contain Hope. 8 p.m. Check website for ticket prices. Arizona Financial Theatre, 400 W. Washington St., Phoenix, 602-379-2857, livenation.com
