When Peixoto Coffee owner Julia Peixoto Peters travels for work, it’s usually a big group trip to her family coffee farm in her native Brazil. But last fall, she set off on her own adventure to Medellín, Colombia, to speak at the prestigious Producer & Roaster Forum. “I love solo journeys,” she says. “They allow me to slow down my pace from my busy life being the mom, the wife, the business owner, the one who is always planning and problem-solving, to just see what shows up on my path.” Peixoto Peters shares her favoritos from her visit to the Antioquia province in the central Andes Mountains.

Peixoto Peters praises this “masterpiece of modern architecture – a stack of modern, container-looking boxes hidden behind a jungle of tropical exuberance, with stellar service.” She enjoyed a cocktail and a bite at the rooftop bar.

Ciudad Bolívar
“From Medellín, I took a bus to Ciudad Bolívar with a group of other coffee professionals to explore the coffee region of Antioquia,” she says. They took a Jeep tour of Cafelumbus’s farms. “We picked coffee cherries, hiked steep coffee-covered mountains, ate with the workers – an unforgettable experience, even for someone who grew up around coffee farms… If you are a coffee enthusiast, I highly recommend going outside of the city and finding a coffee farm experience.”

El Poblado
Peixoto Peters enjoyed exploring this tony Medellín neighborhood and its Parque Lleras, a “great place for people-watching, observing the local culture and being in a tropical urban jungle,” she says. “Stop by Pergamino at Calle 10B for an authentic experience of specialty-grade Colombian coffee. I had a pour-over, a cappuccino and a refresher made with local fruits.”

She splurged on dinner at this hot spot from prolific Barranquilla-born chef Mane Mendoza. “A chic space with a wonderful marriage of international, Italian [and] French cuisine with local influence,” she says. Instagram:
