Beloved San Diego coffee chain Better Buzz has expanded from the coast to the desert, opening its first out-of-state location in Phoenix this month. Vice president of marketing Amanda Cameron says the decision to expand was influenced by the Valley’s vibrant coffee scene and proximity to California.
“We have come to know and love the support we receive from our Arizona visitors to our cafes in San Diego, which made the decision to expand an easy one,” she says. “Phoenix has such an inspiring and innovative coffee community that we have watched grow over the past few years, and we feel so grateful to be a part of its future and continue to reinvent the guest’s coffee experiences.”
Visitors from California can now enjoy a taste of home, while desert dwellers can try Better Buzz without making the trek to the Golden State. The Phoenix location – on Glendale Avenue and Seventh Street – is not only the first out-of-state location after 20 years (and more than 20 locations throughout San Diego County), but also offers Arizona-only products, like Buzz Energy. These brand-new canned energy drinks come in three flavors: original, berry pomegranate and fruit blast. Other exclusive offerings include limited-edition drinks inspired by the Southwest.
“To coincide with the launch of our Buzz Energy cans, we have three new Phoenix-exclusive drinks made with our Buzz Energy available for a limited time only – Burstin’ Blue Raspberry, Always Sunny Citrus and Prickly in Pink Mojito,” Cameron says. “The inspiration behind these was to blend our San Diego beach roots with the desert flavors of Phoenix. They are bright, fun and refreshing.”

These energy-infused coffee alternatives feature a tangy, sweet taste reminiscent of Jolly Rancher candy. Coffee options include sweet concoctions like a comforting snickerdoodle latte. Better Buzz also offers a selection of teas, cold brew and blended iced coffees as well as made-to-order acai bowls, avocado toast and grilled breakfast sandwiches, including a spicy, crunchy bacon ciabatta sandwich with eggs, bacon, muenster and spicy chipotle aioli.
The Phoenix location is hustling and bustling, but it’s just the beginning for Better Buzz in Arizona. According to Cameron, it will be buzzing through other areas of the Valley this year.
“We can’t wait to continue to ‘spread the Buzz’ to neighborhoods in Tempe, Surprise, Scottsdale and Queen Creek in 2024,” she says.
If you want to sip on deliciously handcrafted beverages and soak up some SoCal vibes, Better Buzz Phoenix is open from 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., includes a double drive-thru and offers delivery and mobile ordering.
