Peter Volny is a true renaissance man. The Ferrari enthusiast, former racecar driver and childhood cancer survivor visited more than 160 countries before he and his wife of nearly 45 years settled in the Valley in 2004. Joining his love for high-performance cars with his charitable spirit, Volny created Concours in the Hills, also known as the “Greatest Car Show on Grass.” The free, family-friendly annual event celebrates its 10th anniversary this February in Fountain Hills. All proceeds – nearly half a million dollars last year – go to Phoenix Children’s, Volny’s way of contributing to a cause close to his heart. Armed with dry humor and witty comebacks, the Aussie has embraced a “just laugh a little bit” mentality as he cruises in his 1972 Ferrari Daytona and spends time with family and friends. Volny let us rifle through his well-organized glove box.
