Every week, we present a curated list of live music in a wide range of genres around the Valley, and this week’s column features bands with unusual, attention-getting names.

September 25
Jockstrap
The 2023 Mercury Prize nominees have a connection with Arizona music. They collaborated with Injury Reserve for the track “Robert.” Additionally, one-half of the English electronic duo, Taylor Skye, produced some remixes for the Tempe rappers. 8 p.m., $25-$30, Crescent Ballroom, 308 N. Second Ave., Phoenix, 602-716-2222, crescentphx.com

September 26
The Band CAMINO
The debut album of the Nashville-based band, known for their blend of techno and rock, topped the charts during the pandemic. Now that they can safely play live, they’re making up for lost time with a worldwide tour. 7 p.m., $39.50-$50, Arizona Financial Theatre, 400 W. Washington St., Phoenix, 602-514-2919, livenation.com

Oxymorons
Despite being around for less than a decade, the New York-based alternative hip-hop group, known for their breakout hit “Green Vision,” holds a lot of cred with the old-school crowd. Living up to their name, they built quite a fan base in their early days when they opened for Salt-N-Pepa with an explosive set. 7 p.m., $18-$20, Valley Bar, 130 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, 602-368-3121, valleybarphx.com

September 28
Doobie
Despite the drug-related moniker, long hair and beard, the Ohio rock rapper and producer isn’t the long-lost son of The Doobie Brothers’ Michael McDonald. Rather, he’s called himself the “modern-day Kurt Cobain,” channeling his anger into his lyrics. His fans appreciate the honesty, with songs like “The Drugs Don’t Work” setting streaming records. 8 p.m., $25-$100, The Nile Theatre, 105 W. Main St., Mesa, niletheatre.com

October 1
Behemoth
The Polish metal band is known for lyrics that dabble in Satanism and the supernatural, but band member Nergal (one name, like Bono or Prince) is wary of labeling the band as “death metal.” No matter how you categorize Behemoth’s music, you better bring earplugs just to be safe. 7 p.m., $35, The Van Buren, 401 W. Van Buren St., Phoenix, 480-659-1641, livenation.com
