Every week, we present a curated list of live music in a wide range of genres all around the Valley, and this week’s column features divisive artists.

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
Known for his political outspokenness as he is for his critically acclaimed songwriting, Jason Isbell promised fans that if President Joe Biden won Georgia in the 2020 election, he would record a covers album with music from Peach State artists. True to his word, the alt-country singer released Georgia Blue in 2021 with songs from Vic Chestnut, Otis Redding and R.E.M. 8 p.m., $80, Marquee Theatre, 730 N. Mill Ave., Tempe, 480-829-0707, luckymanonline.com

Nickelback
The “beloved” Canadian rock group told several music sites that they took their time to write Get Rollin’, the band’s latest record, so they wouldn’t put together a “s—-y album.” It must have worked because it has garnered some of the best reviews of their career. 6:30 p.m. $35-$195, Footprint Center, 201 E. Jefferson St., Phoenix, 602-379-7800, footprintcenter.com
July 12
AJJ with Open Mike Eagle
The folk punk group AJJ, which started in Phoenix, proves economy is their strong suit. “The Baby Panda,” one of the singles from their new album Disposable Everything, squeezes in a bizarre story about the death of the titular animal in under two minutes. 8 p.m., $25-$30, Crescent Ballroom, 308 N. 2nd Ave., Phoenix, crescentphx.com
July 15
The Original Misfits
Considering Glenn Danzig was punched out by Danny Marianino of the local punk group North Side Kings over a decade ago, it’s probably a good idea that the original horror-rocker brings some backup in the form of his original Misfits bandmates Jerry Only and Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein. 7 p.m., $49.50-$249.50, Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre, 2121 N. 83rd Ave., Phoenix, 602-254-7200, livenation.com
July 15
Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade
The Primus frontman’s side project looks like a jam band on paper, getting its start at the Mountain Aire Festival in California over 20 years ago. But when they take the stage, the group is more adventurous, performing covers of Pink Floyd and King Crimson during sets. 8 p.m., $45, The Van Buren, 401 W. Van Buren St., Phoenix, 480-659-1641, livenation.com
