Necessity was the mother of investment for Phoenix creative Carly Gilleland, who started her video production company, The Good Vibe Media, in 2016. “One of the biggest problems we had was finding an ideal location for us to film,” she says. “And we were like, ‘We might as well build our own studio.’” This year, she opened The Good Vibe Studios in Arcadia. “We feel like the creative community in Phoenix needs more spaces like this.” Gilleland let us peek into her gear.

“On set, there’s always wardrobe malfunctions or things that need to be fixed. This kit has literally everything you could possibly need,” Gilleland says. The Rescue Kit is made by a Phoenix company and includes things like tape, wrinkle spray, stain remover and more. “It’s a necessity for us.”

Gilleland keeps Liquid IV on hand for hard days on set. “Hydration is clutch, especially when you’re in Arizona and it’s hot as heck.”

“The first grant we ever got was from Sara Blakely during COVID,” Gilleland says of the Spanx CEO’s investment, which allowed The Good Vibe Media to survive the pandemic. “Her whole thing is a red backpack. When she started Spanx, all she started with was her red backpack and $5,000.”

“Fanny packs are everything,” Gilleland says. She stores essentials in a fanny pack while on set.

Another personal staple is Gilleland’s favorite fragrance, Velvet, by local perfumer Cayla Gray. “Not only do I love this perfume because it’s the best perfume I’ve ever owned in my life,” she says. “I love the mission and story behind the brand itself. There’s a lot of heart behind the brand.”
