Audio industry pioneer Dan D’Agostino built a cult-like audiophile following when he co-founded the high-end audio company Krell in the early ’80s. He says after investors forced him and his family out of the company in 2009, he plotted his comeback in Cave Creek with Dan D’Agostino Master Audio Systems, which specializes in small and mighty (expensive) amplifiers. “We thought we could bring some sound quality to the market that wasn’t there,” says company president Bill McKeigan. Reviewers and D’Agostino devotees note that he has moved with the times as listening to music becomes a more active experience, with vinyl’s resurgence and streaming services offering high-definition music. Local music lovers can even stop by the factory to witness the construction of the Progression and Relentless, the company’s best-selling product lines. “Audio continues to improve, and people started wondering, ‘How do I maximize this?’” McKeigan says. “There are now better sources to play, and that’s what makes us important.”
