Since most of us are staying at home this New Year’s Eve, you’ll need to plan your craft beer needs early and make sure the drinks are nice and cold for a toast at midnight. Here are seven fresh new offerings from your local Arizona craft breweries to close out the year 2020.
This hazy IPA is a collaboration with the Tap That AZ podcast to honor the good work by show host Eric Walters and his team who’ve recorded 244 episodes focused on the Arizona craft beer scene over the past few years. This 8.2% ABV hazy is double dry-hopped with Cashmere and Zappa hops. It’s available starting at 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 30 at Simple Machine Brewing. Give Tap That AZ a listen on iTunes or Spotify.
Are you collecting the whole set? Goldwater releases the second in its annual series of fruited sours on Thursday with the Red Ranger (Black Ranger was released in late November). This 5% ABV Gose is brewed with strawberry and pomegranate. The popular GoGo Sour Rangers brand is always bright and colorful with big fruity flavors, which means it’s utterly delightful and the supply won’t last very long. Online ordering and in-store pickup begins Thursday morning.
You’ve eaten all the Christmas cookies and still crave those holiday flavors of cinnamon and honey. Count yourself in luck if you’re in the West Valley because the Snickerdoodle Mage wheat beer is for you. Available in cans starting Thursday, with online ordering available and pickup starting at 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
Billed as neither a west coast IPA or an east coast IPA, Arizona Wilderness blended the two schools of thought together as only they can to create a double IPA as unique as Arizona’s time zone. Arizona Time DIPA releases on Thursday.
If you’re headed somewhere south for the holiday weekend, several Tucson breweries should be on your itinerary. Start at Crooked Tooth and snag its latest edition in the Full Moon Series, the Cold Moon 2020 — an imperial stout with blueberries, cherries and hints of chocolate and caramel. Available on tap or in bottles, and the bottles are buy one-get one 50% off right now. A perfect time to howl at the full moon!
Next on your trip to — or through — the Old Pueblo is a visit to the IPA kings of Tucson: Pueblo Vida. With new releases every week, you’re guaranteed to drink something fresh. This week’s release is Ecotone Double IPA, part of its Strata single hop series. The Strata hop will give it a tropical fruity flavor that’s so good, you’ll start thinking about planning your next trip to Tucson in no time!
We love all parts of the state here on the weekly beer blog. If a trip through Camp Verde is part of your weekend plans, make sure to check out Verde Brewing for this fresh New England IPA brewed with Mosaic and Enigma hops that should give it a big full blast of fruitiness. Available on draft or in growler fills to go.
Cheers to all the great beers brewed in 2020. We sampled too many to mention here and we’re looking forward to many more in 2021. Stay safe out there and drink responsibly.
