If you’re planning a winter escape to Tonto National Forest or the magnificent Tonto Natural Bridge, make a pit stop in Payson (paysonrimcountry.com), where three food and drink options recently opened.

Danzeisen Dairy Creamery Store
Danzeisen Dairy owner Kevin Danzeisen partnered with friends Joe and Katie Klein of Payson to open the first extra-Valley Danzeisen creamery there in July 2020. Stop in to rest your feet and enjoy a milkshake, “Hot Cups” (hot chocolate-like treats, in myriad flavors), cheese curds or a cool bottle of milk. paysonmilk.com

Duza’s Kitchen
Chef/owner Mensur Duzic moved Phoenix favorite Duza’s Kitchen to Payson in August 2019. His globally influenced menu brings welcome culinary variation to the mountain town. Where else nearby can you get South American arepas, breakfast lavosh and porchetta eggs Benedict? duzaskitchen.com

Rim Country BBQ
Coming to Payson this winter, Rim Country BBQ is set to offer Payson mouthwatering barbecue. A menu hadn’t been revealed at press time, but we’d bet on brisket, ribs and pulled pork. Keep an eye on the website for updates on the opening. rimcountrybbq.com
