2020 hasn’t been the best year for community charity events. Everything that involves large groups of people getting together in person to run, bike or walk has been canceled. But where there’s an Internet connection, there’s a way. Check out these three virtual fitness-minded fundraisers you can participate in from anywhere.
Rob Dollar Ride, October 25: In memory of enthusiastic road cyclist Rob Dollar, who was struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver at South Mountain Park in 2017, the Rob Dollar Foundation will host its third annual Rob Dollar Ride virtually, on Sunday, October 25. Cyclists from around the Valley can participate from any location to raise money for the foundation, whose mission is to raise road safety awareness in cyclists and drivers. Registration costs $19 at robdollarfoundation.org/events.
Phoenix Children’s Hospital 5K, Oct. 30-Nov. 1: Participants can run in this annual 5K and Kids Dash from anywhere to raise money for Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s Hope Fund. The first 1,000 adults to register will receive a free cooling towel. The first 150 kids to register for the Kids Dash get a special participation medal. Registration is free at PCH5K.org and fundraising is encouraged.
Arizona Animal Welfare League’s Walk to Save Animals, Nov. 7: The 22nd Annual Walk to Save the Animals takes a virtual format to raise funds for the Arizona Animal Welfare League and its efforts to help thousands of homeless animals and animals in medical need. Registration costs $35 for adults and $15 for kids at aawl.org.
