ADHS Hospital Bed Reports Change
On Saturday, June 6, the Arizona Department of Health Services released a statement regarding the reports of available hospital beds on their COVID-19 Data Dashboard. The statement said that when the Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected order was issued, hospitals had time to increase their surge bed numbers. (Surge beds are beds which are not in use but have the potential to be set up and used later.) Previously, its methods of reporting available hospital beds included reporting surge beds in its total numbers. These surge bed numbers were incorrectly counted, thus creating an inaccurate percentage of available beds in hospitals. ADHS has said that their updated calculation method “shows the current bed availability without calculating in the additional (surge) beds hospitals added under Executive Order 2020-10.”
