Arizona Cardinals owner Bill Bidwill died on October 2 at age 88. In a game against the Cincinnati Bengals on October 6, the Cardinals wore helmets with Bidwill’s initials – W.V.B. – and clinched a 26-23 win. “It’s been an emotional week,” Bidwill’s son, Michael, said.
Kurt Volker
On October 7, Kurt Volker resigned as head of Arizona State University’s McCain Institute for International Leadership – and from the State Department – following media coverage of his testimony as a U.S. special envoy for Ukraine. Volker submitted text messages between U.S. diplomats discussing President Donald Trump’s call for an investigation of presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son.
Pablo Martinez
In October, Pablo Martinez was arrested on Pascua Yaqui Tribe land near Tucson on a charge of first-degree murder for allegedly forcing hot water down a 6-year-old boy’s throat. Martinez told police the boy was possessed and that he was trying to “cast the demon out.”
