#2: Comedian Ben Gleib at Rick Bronson’s House of Comedy, Jan. 28-31
Ben Gleib logged more than a hundred appearances on the E! TV show “Chelsea Lately” during its seven-year run before nabbing his own show on GSN, “Idiotest,” now in its second season. The comedian Esquire magazine named one of “six comedians who could be comedy’s next big thing” will bring his brand of satire, improvisation skills and audience interaction to Scottsdale for a string of stand-up shows, starting at 7:30 p.m. January 28 (tickets cost $15 opening night, $22 for other shows). #3: Moscow Festival Ballet performs “Don Quixote” at Chandler Center for the Arts, Jan. 29
The Moscow Festival Ballet, led by legendary former Bolshoi Ballet principal dancer Sergei Radchenko, performs this graceful iteration of Cervantes’ timeless classic, “Don Quixote.” This tale of a hopeless dreamer on a quest to find his ultimate love (coupled with the subplot of star-crossed lovers trying to finagle their way out of one’s arranged marriage) is like a comedic soap opera set to music, and sure to be a high-jinks- (and pirouette-filled) romp. 7:30 p.m. $17-$54. chandlercenter.org
#4: “Durant’s Never Closes” at Harkins Shea 14, through Jan. 28
This locally made film spins a tale of local lore, as it explores the life of late, mysterious Phoenix steakhouse owner Jack Durant, a notorious womanizer with suspected mob ties. Hollywood heavy Tom Sizemore (“Saving Private Ryan,” “Natural Born Killers”) played the titular character in this unrated film, which was written and directed by Running Wild Films founder Travis Mills. #5: Vanessa Carlton at Livewire, Jan. 26
Best known for her 2002 piano-driven hit song “A Thousand Miles” from her platinum debut album, “Be Not Nobody,” Vanessa Carlton described her new album, “Liberman,” to CBS News as “kind of lush, trippy and beautiful.” Hear her hit and some of the new tunes live at Scottsdale’s premier live music venue.
