It may seem like an unusual promotion, but Keep It Cut owners Josh Thorsvik and Jacob Meltzer say it’s a match made in aerodynamic heaven. We asked them a few questions about the promotion, running marathons and the coolest styles on and off the path.
Where did the idea for this promotion come from? Are you fellas runner yourselves?
Josh Thorsvik: I ran the PF Chang’s half marathon in 2013 and the full marathon in 2014. Jacob signed me up for my birthday in 2012, so I got up off my couch and started running. Prior to that, I hadn’t ran in at least 6 years. I noticed that many of the runners had some cool race day cuts and we thought it would be fun to help people get into the spirit for this year’s race.
Jacob Meltzer: I have been a runner most of my life; short runs a few times a week and a 5 or 10K on occasion. Then I got into a bad motorcycle accident in April 2012 and was out of all physical activity for three months. When I finally got my neck brace off, I needed a goal to get back into shape and so I signed myself up for the 2014 P.F. Chang’s full marathon and Josh for the half. I figured, why suffer alone? Running a marathon is half physical and half mental. We felt getting a fresh cut right before the race would help boost the mental confidence. Plus, less hair is less weight to run with, right?
What are the most popular hairstyles right now?
JT: Since Keep It Cut does mostly men’s cuts, I would say one of the hot trends right now is cut-in parts for guys who like to keep it short, and the man bun for guys who like to keep it on the longer side.
Any popular or fun race-day cuts?
JT: Mohawks are definitely where it’s at. I think there is some aerodynamic advantages to them, plus they really stand out in a race day crowd.
