At Camelback Village Health Club & Spa, veteran fencing champion and coach Jim Barbour heads the fencing club, which he founded in 2001. Through five decades of fencing professionally and then coaching the fencing team at Arizona State University, Barbour has shepherded multiple fencers to the U.S.A. Fencing National Championships. Now, he teaches group and private lessons for épée plebes as well as pros and touts the benefits of the sport on coordination and reflexes and the development of leg and core strength. At the Village, he’s taught everyone from children to septuagenarians.

Eager to recreate your favorite The Princess Bride or The Mask of Zorro dueling scenes? Check out the resources and clubs from our original fencing piece or, to study with Barbour, contact Chelsey Broermann at Camelback Village.
