Since the dawn of time, humans have gazed up at the heavens and wondered where we all came from. Heard Museum’s Substance of Stars exhibit brings our existential musing to life by examining the creation stories of different Indigenous communities. The exhibit features art and artifacts that explore the origins of Native identities, languages, spiritual beliefs and sky knowledge, centering on rotating Indigenous groups – currently, it focuses on the O’odham, Diné, Central Yup’ik and Seneca. The dramatic centerpiece of the collection is a room with wall-to-wall video screens called the Sky-Dome, which immerses the audience in videos, images and sounds from the lands of the featured communities, showcasing landscapes from the desert to the arctic in a variety of seasons and perspectives. Monday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Check online for ticket prices. 2301 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, 602-252-8840, heard.org
