Family medicine physician Mila Lopez is nothing if not dedicated to the details. Offering concierge primary and lifestyle care at Luxury Lifestyle Medicine in North Scottsdale, she syncs the lobby music to the energy of her patients and stocks the bathroom with self-care items, borrowing the practice from powder rooms in Las Vegas. At home, she employs that same precision when it comes to stocking and organizing her family’s pantry. Healthy snacks for the kids are tucked into wire bins on a lower shelf. Adult-friendly staples live inside clear bins about waist-high, where Lopez and her anesthesiologist husband, Matt, can reach. Years ago, Lopez created a “family inventory” form, so anyone can mark when an item is low. To add even more efficiency to the process, the list is organized to match the route Lopez takes through Whole Foods. “It’s how you can be a mother, doctor and take care of yourself, too,” she said of her organization habits. “Beyond being healthy, it reduces food waste. I’m so big on not wasting food.”
- Dried strawberries, packs of dried seaweed and roasted green peas are easy to reach inside
wire bins. - The Lopez fridge is always stocked with fresh fruit, including plums, clementines and persimmons.
- Labeled glass jars hold spices Mila uses for cooking, from rose petal to saffron to paprika.
- Barebells “Brownie Batter” protein bars, chocolate whey and psyllium fiber pills are readily available at the protein shake bar inside the pantry.
- Clear containers hold healthy snack choices, like almonds, dried dragonfruit and pretzels, waist-high.
