AIR
It’s hard to believe that Moon Safari is 27 years old. The breakthrough album by the French electronic duo AIR sounds right out of 1998, as its calm, downtempo tracks were seemingly everywhere: in the movies Go and 10 Things I Hate About You, on commercials, and playing on MTV. Yet none of the songs would sound out of place in a futuristic airport lounge or a swanky French dance hall. The fact that this album led to a collaboration with film director Sofia Coppola for her 1970s-set film The Virgin Suicides demonstrates the timelessness of its compositions. It is certainly meaningful to the creatives behind the album, Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel.
