Every week, we present a curated list of live music in a wide range of genres around the Valley. This week’s column features two bands that are known to get gothic.
August 11
Ghost
On stage, Tobias Jens Forge, masked leader of the Swedish doom metal band, closely resembles Skeletor, the main villain from the ’80s cartoon He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. He’s leaning into the resemblance as Ghost hits the road for what the band has dubbed the Skeletour. 8 p.m. Check website for ticket prices. PHX Arena, 201 E. Jefferson St., Phoenix, 602-379-7800, phx-arena.com

Clan of Xymox
If you couldn’t get tickets to see Ghost, may we point you south down Central Ave. to Last Exit Live? The venue will be hosting Clan of Xymox. While Ghost is a Swedish metal group and Clan of Xymox is considered a pioneer of underground dark wave, both bands definitely set a similar and moody atmospheric tone. In fact, the Dutch band’s early work paved the way for late-era goth bands like Drab Majesty. 7:30 p.m., $30-$35, Last Exit Live, 717 S. Central Ave., Phoenix, lastexitlive.com

Keb’ Mo’ and Shawn Colvin
Blues artist Keb’ Mo’ and folk singer Shawn Colvin, known for the ’90s hit “Sunny Came Home,” are joining forces for a night of musical storytelling. 7:30 p.m., $42.64-$124.74, Celebrity Theatre, 440 N. 32nd St., Phoenix, 602-267-1600, celebritytheatre.com

Lainey Wilson
After performing her new single “Somewhere Over Laredo” at the American Music Awards earlier this year, many critics predicted it as the country song of the summer. It hasn’t hit the mainstream yet, but it’s Wilson’s biggest debut to date. 7 p.m. Check website for ticket prices. PHX Arena, 201 E. Jefferson St., Phoenix, 602-379-7800, phx-arena.com

Simple Plan
The pop-punk heroes behind “I’m Just a Kid” are celebrating 25 years together by bringing their energetic, nostalgic live show to fans. Bowling For Soup and 3OH!3 are also coming along for the ride. 6:30 p.m. Check website for ticket prices. Arizona Financial Theatre, 400 W. Washington St., Phoenix, 602-514-2919, livenation.com
