For many Phoenicians, the WM Phoenix Open golf tournament is a square on the “Live Your Best Life in Arizona” bingo card. It’s a bucket-list event for many and an annual pilgrimage for others. Dress for the occasion with this personality-driven showcase of the season’s hottest fairway fashions.

The Weather Prepper

After walking away from last year’s famously water-logged event in mud-splattered sneakers and sopping chinos, this perennial Open attendee is taking preventive action. For his office-to-VIP-tent look, he’s sporting waterproof sneakers and has a towel tucked into his pocket. He’s also bringing a rain jacket so he can close deals – even if they’re getting done under an umbrella.

Penny Lane

With her eye on the Birds Nest, this “band-aid” is at the Open to sing until she loses her voice, and she wants her feet to make it through the night, rain or shine. It’s why she’s sporting waterproof Timberland boots, barrel jeans and a cropped tee that pays homage to country royalty and the good ol’ desert storms we used to get back in the ’80s.

Rocking Range Rat

Given that he’s at the Open primarily to see Luke Bryan and Jelly Roll at the Birds Nest, this Zillennial party bro can be immediately identified by his SEC baseball cap (worn backwards, of course), light jacket (to ward off the nighttime chill) and golf-themed bottle opener stashed in his pocket (in case someone drops their tailgate and pops open a cooler).

The Shotmaker

Practical in every way, this sportswoman is hoping to make a seamless transition from spectator to happy hour in a sleek, course- and cocktail-quality jumpsuit layered with a performance (read: water-resistant!) vest and finished with a hard-working sling bag – so her hands are free to cheer for the leaderboard.

The Tee Box Hero

Though his dance card is reliably packed with tee times during the warm Valley winter, this inveterate golf junkie always makes time for the Phoenix Open. Analyzing backswings and follow-throughs, he’s breaking in new golf shoes while walking the TPC and is always eager to share his predictions for the final round.

Desert Darling

She’s not at the Open to watch – unless it’s watching who’s watching her. To prepare, she’ll clear her camera roll, research the best Instagram filters and practice the time-honored art of taking a video of her hand holding a celebratory cocktail. She means social media business, so she’s left her heels at home this time.
