A little more than a year ago, Misty Stachel was working as a fitness instructor at Mountainside Fitness and selling her old athletic clothing on consignment-style websites like Poshmark. In 2022, inspired by her success online and with connections to many local artisans and small business owners, Stachel opened 85 Local, a cozy, warmly lit store in North Peoria with walls and shelves adorned with goods from more than 25 local businesses and artisans. “There’s a lot of consignment stores in the East Valley, and I wanted to bring that same type of fun store here,” Stachel says. 85 Local’s name comes from the first two numbers of the store’s zip code and pays homage to the local businesses it supports. The shop offers an assortment of locally made crafts and goods, women’s and men’s clothing, and items for children. “At 85 Local, we want people to feel that they can find that special one-of-a-kind gift,” Stachel says. “It’s also a good way to support the local community.” In addition to the retail component, Stachel hosts arts and crafts classes, boutique crawls, permanent jewelry pop-ups, create-your-own hat bars and more.
