Hike of the Week: Bluff Spring Loop in the Superstition Wilderness Area

Using bits of the Dutchman’s and Bluff Springs trails, this loop swings by several of the Supe’s most iconic volcanic landforms including Miner’s Needle, Weavers Needle and the hoodoo-lined gorge of Bark’s Canyon.

  • RATING: moderate
  • ELEVATION: 2,153 – 3,250 feet
  • BEST SEASON: October – April
  • FACILITIES: restroom

GETTING THERE: From Phoenix, take U.S. 60 east to about 8 miles past Apache Junction and look for the brown “Peralta Trailhead” sign on the side of the road. Turn left here onto Peralta Road (Forest Road 77) and drive 8 miles to the trailhead.  Forest Road 77 is maintained dirt with some deep ruts, passable by most carefully-driven vehicles.
